I’m not a spokesman, but I play one on TV

Author Information

As Senior Writer/Director here at PlattForm, I spend most of my time behind-the-scenes saying things like, “Action!” and “Cut!”

But in a former life, I spent my time in front of the camera as a local television entertainment reporter.  You name a star, I’ve likely interviewed them.

In the past few years, though, I’ve been bitten by the spokesperson bug.  I’ve had to shill everything from boots to belts to swimsuits to Xmas trees.

And then some genius at PlattForm (read that: me) decided I should practice what I preach and start promoting our schools.  Finally – an opportunity to put my mouth where my money is.

Typically, schools want a spokesperson that’s affable and relatable.  They want someone who speaks not only FOR the school, but TO potential students as well. It’s a slippery slope. You have to have charm, charisma and a sense of urgency.  Heck, I’ve even seen schools use their own campus presidents to be the school’s spokesperson. I’m all for that if they have a great on-camera presence.  Who better to sell your school – than one of your own, right?

One of our in-house conglomerates is BeautySchoolsDirectory.com – and that’s where I came in.  If you’re looking for a beauty school near you or need help finding one that fits your needs, this is the website for you.  BSD.com was looking for a little promotional push in the right direction …so the BSD team collectively put their heads together to figure out how to get their name “out there.”

When you think “out there” … you think me.  At least in this case.

It was a great way to promote all the great things BeautySchoolsDirectory.com had to offer – and have a little fun at the same time.  It was such a hit we’ve upped the ante – and have done several more segments, including this one from Halloween.

“Spokesperson” is sort an innocuous term for what I do.  Around the walls of PlattForm, I’m the “funny guy who somehow knows how to get his mug on TV and randomly talk about whatever random stuff is needed on that day.”  Nice work if you can get it, huh?
